Job summary

BC Hydro is seeking a Co-op Student in Electrical/Computer Engineering (Grid Modernization) for January Winter 2027. This full-time Co-Op role in Edmonds A03 offers practical, hands-on experience related to the field of study and enables collaboration with engineers, project managers, analysts, and business professionals.

You will gain exposure to utility operations and grid modernization technologies while developing data analytics and reporting skills in a safety-conscious environment.

Qualifications

• Enrolled at a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada and not yet graduated.
• Currently pursuing Electrical or Computer Engineering with minimum 2nd-year status.
• Preference for 3rd or 4th year students.
• Prior co-op, internship, research, or relevant work experience preferred.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with Power BI, SQL, Python or other data analytics tools is an asset.
• Must hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Support distribution automation, AMI, and other grid modernization initiatives.
• Assist with program management activities: planning, coordination, tracking, and reporting.
• Prepare, analyze, and report data from multiple sources.
• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and data visualizations.
• Prepare business and technical documents, reports, and communications materials.

• The candidate will be responsible for supporting distribution automation, Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), and other grid modernization initiatives.
• The candidate will be responsible for supporting program management activities, including planning, coordination, tracking, and reporting.
• The candidate will be responsible for preparing, analyzing, and reporting on data from various sources and databases.
• The candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining Power BI dashboards and data visualizations.
• The candidate will be responsible for preparing business and technical documents, reports, presentations, and communications materials.
• The candidate will be responsible for working with cross-functional teams to support process improvements and innovation.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must be currently enrolled at a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada and yet to graduate to qualify for the position.
• The candidate must be currently enrolled in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering and have completed a minimum of second-year studies.
• Preference will be given to candidates who are in their third or fourth year of study.
• Candidates with previous co-op, internship, research, or other relevant work experience will be preferred.
• The candidate must have strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills.
• The candidate must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
• Candidates with experience using Power BI, SQL, Python, or other data analytics tools will be considered an asset.
• The candidate will be required to hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Security and safety

• The candidate will be required to obtain background check clearance as a condition of employment at BC Hydro. This may include reference checks, education verification, employment verification, criminal record check, drivers abstract review, and a drug and alcohol test.
• The candidate will be required to successfully complete pre-employment alcohol and drug testing as a condition of employment for this safety-sensitive position.

Work conditions

• The candidate will be required to work at the job location for the Co-op role and will be responsible for making relocation arrangements if necessary.
• The candidate will be assigned to one of four role types that determine the degree of flexibility available to work from home based on the type of work performed.
• The candidate will work in a Field role with no option to work from home.
• The candidate will work primarily in the office, typically 4 or more days per week.
• The candidate may be able to work from home for up to 3 days per week in a Hybrid role.
• The candidate will perform their work from home for 4 or more days per week under the Remote work model.
• The candidate will gain practical, hands-on experience directly related to their field of study.
• The candidate will gain exposure to utility operations and the evolving electric utility industry.
• The candidate will develop an understanding of current and emerging grid modernization technologies.
