• The candidate will be responsible for working with construction managers, officers, and contractors to proactively identify technical construction issues, non-conformances, and design issues and support their quick resolution.
• The candidate will be responsible for developing an understanding of construction methods/sequencing to support the proactive anticipation and identification of contractor interfaces and/or related construction risks.
• The candidate will be responsible for developing a strong understanding of each contract’s scope, specifications, Issued for Construction Drawings, Inspection and Test Plans, and contractor-prepared drawings/submittals.
• The candidate will be responsible for assisting with deficiency tracking, review, and closure, including verifying deficiency scope in the field, monitoring rectification activities performed by trades or contractors, and preparing closure evidence.

Job Requirements

• The candidate must be enrolled in academic studies at a post-secondary institution in Canada and must be returning to school after completing their work term with BC Hydro to qualify for a student Co-op opportunity.
• The candidate must have completed a minimum of 2nd year of civil or mechanical engineering studies at an accredited university.
• The candidate should demonstrate enthusiasm and interest in gaining hands-on field experience in construction at a BC Hydro generation facility.
• The candidate must demonstrate technical writing and presentation skills, along with excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• The candidate must be a team player who is approachable, takes initiative, and is a proven problem solver.
• The candidate must hold a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.

Security and safety

• The candidate will be required to obtain background check clearance as a condition of employment at BC Hydro. This may include reference checks, education verification, employment verification, criminal record check, drivers abstract review, and a drug and alcohol test.
• The candidate will be required to successfully complete pre-employment alcohol and drug testing as a condition of employment for this safety-sensitive position.

Work conditions

• The candidate will be required to work at the job location for the Co-op role and will be responsible for making relocation arrangements if necessary.
• The candidate will be assigned to one of four role types that determine the degree of flexibility available to work from home based on the type of work performed.
• The candidate will work in a Field role with no option to work from home.
• The candidate will work primarily in the office, typically 4 or more days per week.
• The candidate may be able to work from home for up to 3 days per week in a Hybrid role.
• The candidate will perform their work from home for 4 or more days per week under the Remote work model.
• At the end of the Co-op term, the students will have gained excellent first-hand knowledge of multi-disciplinary, fast-paced, large hydropower construction.
