Job summary

A local education non-profit is seeking a Prenatal Educator to provide quality in-person education for expectant families. The role requires strong communication, organizational skills, and a passion for fostering a supportive learning environment. Ideal candidates will have training in maternal health and the ability to offer evidence-based, inclusive education. This casual position offers flexible hours between 1 to 12 per week and pays $18.00 to $60.00 per hour, depending on experience.

Qualifications

  • Must have related education and/or training within maternal health.
  • Prior experience in teaching or tutoring preferred.
  • Must be able to work independently on site.

Job Summary

Ottawa Childbirth Education Association is looking for a new team member to provide superior quality prenatal education for in-person weekend classes, as a self-employed contracted educator.

The ideal candidate will
  • Offer non-biased perinatal information, support, encouragement, guidance, and education to families (single parents by choice, multiple parents, extended families, same-sex partnerships and families of choice)
  • Provide information on birth options and resources
  • Encourage informed decision-making
  • Model and teach effective communication
  • Equip participants with non-medical comfort techniques for labour, such as movement, position changes, comforting touch, visualization, breathing techniques, affirmations
  • Support participants with medicated options for pain management, interventions and cesarian birth
  • Provide information on infant feeding and postpartum mental health
  • Support diversity and inclusivity within the learning environment at all times
  • Must support the birthing person/family experience from a client-centred and strength-based approach

The ideal candidate will have a balance of lived experience; work experience in related disciplines (healthcare, education, counselling etc.,) and a passion for working with expectant families.

Qualifications
  • Related education and/or training within maternal health
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to connect effectively with class participants
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Passion for education and commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment.
  • Prior experience in teaching or tutoring is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to provide evidence-based, and inclusive education
  • Must be able to work independently on site and participate within the team
