Position Summary

The Business Strategy Analyst will play a key role in supporting the company's strategic growth, capital allocation, and value creation initiatives. Reporting to the Vice President, Strategy and Corporate Development or their designate, this role will support the advancement of significant internal growth and operational improvement projects and the analysis, due diligence and execution of acquisition opportunities.

This role requires an analytical and strategic mindset, financial acumen, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously across the business. This is a highly collaborative, cross-functional role that sits at the intersection of strategy, finance, operations, and data. The successful candidate recognizes that this role isn't just about analysis and execution—it’s about drawing strategic insights from the data and aligning different departments on value-creating growth initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Planning & Value-Creation Initiatives
  • Contribute to the company’s strategic planning by developing financial models, forecasts, and scenario analyses to shape the long-term growth plan.
  • Work closely with finance and divisional leaders to help identify, prioritize and support internal growth and business improvement projects.
  • Partner with operations, finance, and regional leadership to assess business cases for capacity expansions, process improvements, and new product investments.
  • Play a key role in reviewing major internal growth and capital investment (CAPEX) projects, including financial modelling, sensitivity and return analysis, and alignment to strategic priorities.
  • Track and report on value creation initiatives across Opta Group, ensuring visibility into progress, risks, and realized benefits.
  • Help establish and maintain a post-investment tracking framework to monitor whether approved projects are delivering expected value.
  • Support the development of standardized templates and metrics for CAPEX justification, approval, and post-implementation review.
  • Monitor industry trends, competitive landscape, and market opportunities to inform corporate strategy.
Business Intelligence Enablement
  • Support the build-out, maintenance, and ongoing enhancement of Opta’s Power BI ecosystem.
  • Build and maintain regular and automated analytical views including sales and margin data, product and customer views, and regional and global performance.
  • Assist in defining data structures, hierarchies, and logic that enable consistent analysis across regions, customers, and product categories.
  • Work closely with IT, finance, and business unit teams to ensure data accuracy, completeness, and reconciliation to source systems.
  • Help institutionalize data discipline so that analytics move from ad hoc spreadsheets to trusted, repeatable platforms.
Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Support
  • Conduct financial modeling, valuation analysis, and due diligence for potential transactions.
  • Prepare executive-level presentations, business cases and M&A materials for the Board of Directors and executive leadership in support of new acquisitions.
  • Partner with operational teams to track post-merger integration milestones and ensure acquired businesses meet financial and strategic objectives.

  • The successful candidate is viewed as a go-to resource for turning data into strategic insight and helping to make the organization smarter and more proactive.
  • Business Intelligence dashboards are live, maintained, and trusted by internal stakeholders including periodic sales and margin analyses across Opta.
  • Leadership is increasingly making decisions using trusted, shared datasets developed and maintained by this role.
Qualifications & Experience
  • 2-4 years of experience in finance, business analytics, corporate development or a similar strategic finance role in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Power BI with knowledge of SQL and Python considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage with senior leadership.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, attention to detail, with the ability to drive complex initiatives to completion.
  • Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in business, finance or engineering.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
