The Public Works Department is seeking a Building Maintenance Manager to join their team!

Title: Building Maintenance Manager

Department: Public Works

Status: Full-time, temporary for 6 months; ending June 8th 2026

Salary: $ 65.92 per hour, 35 hours/week

Settlement Allowance: $22,378.20 per annum

Union Status: Excluded
Closing date: December 19th 2025

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Superintendent – General Operations, the Facilities Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing, coordinating and supervising the activities of City maintenance staff and maintenance contractors in the maintenance and repair of City facilities. The scope of responsibility includes building envelope, entries/exits/access ways, interior finishes, electrical/lighting, plumbing, heating, ventilation, service equipment, chillers, and other utilities. The Facilities Maintenance Manager oversees and maintains an effective building/facilities maintenance program that prolongs the life of City assets, ensures safe operation of all equipment and use of facilities, and completes repairs in a timely manner.

Qualifications
  • Completion of post-secondary education in the construction, building sciences (architectural, mechanical, electrical, etc.), business administration, or project management fields.
  • A minimum of 3 years recent experience successfully supervising and administering maintenance projects/programs or managing operations in a unionized Municipal, Territorial, Provincial, Public Works or Parks environment.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures used in building maintenance management.
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in maintaining and servicing buildings and building systems.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with building maintenance and building system maintenance activities.
  • Proven experience developing, tendering and administering contracts for capital assets and/or infrastructure related to projects and operations funded by a public organization.
  • Proven experience and competence writing technical reports and preparing detailed budgets and cost estimates relating to construction projects.
  • A thorough understanding of management theory and administration will enable the incumbent to provide the required level of professional support and to offer meaningful analysis of policies and programs.
  • Knowledge of general office equipment and personal computers and related security software and equipment.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer services. This includes setting and meeting quality standards for services and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to utilize a personal computer with word processing, spreadsheet and related software with reasonable speed and accuracy.
  • A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Note: Equivalencies that include a combination of education and experience may be considered at the time of selecting candidates when the requisite skill attainment can be demonstrated.

Additional Information

Applicants must be willing and able to travel to work sites and related locations as necessary. Transportation is provided on a select list of routes. Applicants must be familiar with and open to new systems and tools including information technology tools associated with job duties.
