About The Role
BAAC Construction is seeking an experienced Bookkeeper / Accounting Clerk to support our growing construction operations. This is a hands‑on role responsible for day‑to‑day accounting, payroll support, and job costing in a fast‑paced, project‑driven environment. This role is ideal for a detail‑oriented accounting professional who has direct construction experience, is comfortable working within ERP systems, and understands the importance of accuracy, compliance, and collaboration between finance and operations.
Key Responsibilities
Day‑to‑Day Accounting
- Perform daily accounting and data entry activities
- Enter and process vendor bills and invoices
- Review invoices for accuracy, proper coding, approvals, and job allocation
- Maintain organized, accurate, and audit‑ready financial records
Payroll & Compliance Support
- Assist with payroll processing and payroll‑related reconciliations
- Support payroll remittances, source deductions, and WCB reporting
- Assist with tracking overtime, LOA, travel, and field‑based pay structures
Job Costing & Project Support
- Assist with job costing, cost tracking, and project reporting
- Support progress billing, holdbacks, and cost allocation
- Respond to internal inquiries from project managers and operations regarding job costs and invoices
Month‑End & Reporting
- Assist with month‑end close activities and reconciliations
- Support GST filings and government reporting
- Assist with year‑end preparation and coordination with external accountants
General Support
- Enter and maintain new hire information in accounting and payroll systems
- Support process improvements and system efficiencies as the company scales
- Provide general accounting and administrative finance support as needed
Core Requirements (Essential)
- 3‑5+ years of experience as a Bookkeeper or Accounting Clerk
- Previous payroll experience (essential)
- Job costing experience (essential)
- Construction industry experience (required)
- Experience working with ERP systems (required)
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and organizational skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
Rockstar / Bonus Qualifications
- Experience using Spectrum ERP (strong asset, not required)
- Comfortable working in ERP environments beyond QuickBooks
- Highly tech‑savvy and adaptable to new systems and tools
- Strong reconciliation and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to take on increasing responsibility as the role grows
Technical & Industry Knowledge
- Solid understanding of construction accounting workflows
- Familiarity with progress billing, holdbacks, and job cost reporting
- Strong Excel skills for reconciliations, tracking, and reporting
- Understanding of field‑based payroll structures and construction labor costing
