Horizon North Chi Mino Ozhitoowin (CMO_ Joint Venture Partnership is hiring a Baker for the Waasigan Transmission Line project in Thunder Bay, ON. This position follows a 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off rotation with hourly wages starting at $23.27 per hour. The Baker is responsible for preparing sweet and savoury bakery products for the bagged lunch program and daily menu service while ensuring compliance with food safety and HACCP standards. The role includes accommodations with private rooms, meals, Wi‑fi, laundry facilities, and a gym. Transportation to and from the site is provided from designated locations.

Responsibilities

The Baker will manage bakery production for both the bagged lunch program and daily menu service while maintaining high food safety standards.

  • Produce scratch/pre-fabricated cookies, pastries, squares, and other baked goods for bagged lunches.
  • Prepare and plate cakes, pies, and other desserts for meal service.
  • Follow production planning and quality standards as per contract scope.
  • Ensure all food safety requirements are met.
  • Complete HACCP and production logs as required.
  • Label and date all products prepared for service.
  • Maintain and stock the bakery service area as needed.
  • Clean, sweep, and mop workstation at the end of shifts.
  • Receive and store all food, beverage, chemical, and paper supplies.
Requirements

Applicants should have bakery experience in a large‑scale camp setting and food safety certification.

  • Current Food Safe certificate required.
  • Large-scale camp baking experience required.
  • Red Seal or other culinary certification is an asset.
  • Experience with weekly inventory management.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain a clean work environment.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced setting.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs, climb ladders or stairs, and perform repetitive handwork.

Waasigan Transmission Line Project

The Waasigan Transmission Line Project is a major infrastructure initiative led by Hydro One in partnership with nine First Nations communities to strengthen the electricity supply in Northwestern Ontario. This project will add 350 megawatts of clean energy to the region, more than double the power required for the city of Thunder Bay. The transmission line will extend from the Lakehead Transformer Station in Shuniah to the Mackenzie Transformer Station in Atikokan, with a further extension to the Dryden Transformer Station in Dryden. Construction is planned in two phases: the first phase, from Shuniah to Atikokan, is excepted to be operational by the end of 2025, while the second phase, from Atikokan to Dryden, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2027.
