Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics engineering (or equivalent qualification).
  • SolidWorks modelling and drawing creation.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engine powertrain systems.
  • Good English communication skills both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

  • Develop designs according to specifications and project constraints.
  • Produce engineering documentation including drawings and reports.
  • Research and evaluate specifications and vendor products.
  • Perform project management duties and monitor project performance.

Position: Automotive Mechanical Product Development Engineer

This role is based in our Abbotsford location and is fully onsite. We will also consider candidates with a background or experience in Mechatronics or Electronics.

Reporting & Hours

This position reports to the Product Development Director who heads the Research & Development Department. Work hours are 7:30 AM–5:00 PM, Monday to Friday with every 2nd weekend a 3‑day weekend.

Responsibilities
  • Apply accepted engineering principles to develop designs according to specifications and within project constraints.
  • Produce high‑quality engineering documentation in the form of drawings, reports and SOPs.
  • Research and evaluate specifications, vendor products, and outside services to establish designs and ensure they meet all requirements.
  • Perform project management duties such as liaising with the sales group to assist in defining the project scope, cost and schedule estimates, and quality requirements.
  • Log costs and monitor project performance against set budgets.
  • Provide engineering support to internal staff and support the production departments with technical challenges.
  • Use advanced tools to reverse engineer and design functional assemblies and components.
  • Design functional parts and assemblies in SolidWorks, analyze FMEA in simulation, and report in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Perform a portion of quality control/assurance on incoming products and finish goods.
  • Spearhead medium‑sized projects from multiple disciplines and different departments.
  • Install and test fit prototypes or production pieces to ensure compatibility with goals and standards.
  • Ensure that designs are technically and commercially viable and can be reliably manufactured within cost targets.
  • Actively create clear and concise SOPs and instruction manuals to establish standard training and mentoring practices.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What We Look For
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics engineering (or equivalent qualification).
  • Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engine powertrain systems.
  • SolidWorks modelling and drawing creation.
  • Strong hands‑on mechanical aptitude, preferably in an automotive background.
  • Advanced problem‑solving skills.
  • Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good English communication skills both spoken and written.

  • A professional engineering designation (e.g., P.Eng.) would also be considered an asset.
