Job summary

A leading food processing company in Brooks, Canada is seeking a Human Resources Manager to assist in managing HR operations, labor relations, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate will have prior experience in a unionized environment and at least 5 years in meat processing or manufacturing. Job description
  • Assists the HRM managing human resources operations;
  • Assists the HRM to handle labor relations with the local UFCW, administration of the collective bargaining agreement and the grievance process;
  • Provide facility supervision with advice and counsel on personnel issues;
  • Assists the HRM to administrate unemployment claims and attend unemployment hearings
  • Ensure regulatory compliance;
  • Stay current on recent Federal, Provincial and case law changes and monitor labor regulations updates for changes that affect Human Resources;
  • Assists the HRM to propose, publish and administer personnel policies;
  • Assists the HRM to process and implement formal disciplinary action of employees, initiate termination procedures and put into action as needed;
  • Prepare and maintain records and procedures for controlling personnel transactions and reporting personnel data;
  • Maintain HRIS integrity and systems;
  • Assists the HRM to respond to any questions or requests by governmental agencies (includes employee complaints) and represent the company at hearings;
  • Assists the HRM to establish, evaluate and maintain departmental reports and key indicators;
  • Recommend new approaches, policies and procedures to assist in continual improvements in efficiency of HR department and services performed;
  • Assists the HRM to direct local benefits administration, enrollment and open enrollment meetings;
  • Supervise staff of Human Resources employees;
  • Investigate employee issues and conflicts and bring them to resolution;
  • Ensure the organization’s compliance with local, provincial and federal regulations;
  • Maintain company organization charts and employee directory;
  • Assists the HRM to partner with management to ensure strategic HR goals are aligned with business initiatives;
  • Coach leaders towards best practice execution of people management responsibilities. And support talent assessment, performance management processes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Prior experience in unionized environment required
  • 5 years’ experience in meat processing or other manufacturing setting
  • Strong communication and public speaking skills
  • CHRP preferred
