Job description

Granite Accounting, located in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, is seeking an Intermediate or Senior Accountant to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for providing high-quality accounting and bookkeeping services and tax return preparation to a diverse client base, including individuals, small businesses, and farms. This position can be full-time or flex-time and offers a hybrid work environment with flexibility to work from home part of the time. If you are a detail-oriented accounting professional with solid Canadian tax experience and strong accounting skills, we encourage you to apply.

Key Responsibilities
  • Bookkeeping: Perform full-cycle bookkeeping duties for clients, including managing accounts payable and receivable, processing payroll, and completing bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of financial records. Maintain organized financial records using accounting software.
  • Tax Preparation: Prepare personal and corporate tax returns (T1 and T2) for individuals, small businesses, and agricultural clients, including related filings such as GST/PST returns and payroll remittances. Ensure all tax submissions comply with CRA regulations and deadlines.
  • Financial Statements: Assist in preparing monthly and/or quarterly financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Client Interaction: Communicate with clients to gather necessary information and provide friendly, professional support. Offer bookkeeping and basic advisory support to help clients understand their financial information and tax obligations.
  • Compliance & Reporting: Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards and firm policies in documentation and reporting. Assist with year-end closing entries and coordinate with senior accountants or partners on more complex accounting and tax projects, as required.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required). A Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CPA) or enrollment in the CPA program is an asset for senior-level candidates.
  • Experience: Several years of relevant accounting experience in Canada, commensurate with an intermediate or senior role. This should include hands-on experience in tax return preparation (T1 and/or T2) and bookkeeping.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Microsoft 365, and TaxPrep is preferred. Familiarity with other bookkeeping and tax software is an asset.
  • Industry Knowledge: Experience working with small business clients is important. Experience with farm/agricultural clients or a farming background is a strong asset.
  • Core Competencies: Strong knowledge of Canadian tax regulations and CRA filing requirements for both personal and corporate taxes. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in work. Good organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple client files and deadlines.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills, both written and verbal in English. Ability to explain financial information to clients in a clear, professional manner. Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively within our team.
What We Offer
  • Competitive Compensation: We provide a compensation package that reflects your skills, experience, and level of responsibility. Both intermediate and senior candidates are recognized appropriately, with room for growth as you progress in your career.
  • Benefits Package: Comprehensive benefits are provided, including health and dental coverage, paid time off, and other group insurance benefits.
  • Work-Life Balance: We understand the importance of work-life balance, especially after busy season. Enjoy reduced hours or flexible summer schedules once tax season is over.
  • Hybrid & Flexible Work Arrangement: We support a hybrid work model and flexible scheduling. Depending on the candidate’s situation, there is the option to work from home part of the week and to adjust your working hours (e.g., early or late start times) to suit your needs.
  • Professional Development: Opportunities for ongoing professional development and training. Whether you are pursuing your CPA designation or simply looking to sharpen your skills, we provide support for continuing education, workshops, or industry seminars.
