About the Job

This 310T Apprentice Technician performs major and technically difficult diagnostics, repairs, and overhauls / rebuilds in a timely manner; ensuring quality, time standards, customer expectations, cost guidelines and reliability goals are met. The 310T Apprentice Technician works on assignments requiring considerable judgment and mentors other Ryder technicians on a regular basis. The 310T Apprentice Technician provides the highest level of experience and expertise in vehicle diagnostics and repair. The position also plays a key role in the leadership, development and training of other grade technicians. The 310T Apprentice Technician may specialize in areas such as: refrigeration, electronics, exhaust systems, etc., and should possess a combination of extensive vehicle transportation experience, ASE certifications, and / or multiple Ryder.

Wage : $25 - $35 per hour

Work Type : Full-time Permanent

Location : Guelph, ON (Working at our customer's site)

Shifts Hours : Day Shift, 4 days a week, 10 hours a day

Essential Functions

  • Performs vehicle maintenance and repair duties upon Tire and Wheel, Brakes-Air, Brakes-Hydraulic, A / C, Heater & Refrigeration, Cargo Handling / Transfer, Liftgates, Cranking System (Electrical), Lighting System, Electrical Accessories, Clutch, Cooling Systems, Drive Axles, Drive Line, Diesel and Gas Engines - All Engines, Fuel Systems, Steering and Non-Driven Axles, Suspension-Chassis And Cab, Vehicle Coupling System (PM) etc.
  • Coaches / mentors other level technicians
  • Advise shop management and other technicians regarding maintenance repair procedures and diagnostics.
  • Performs facility maintenance duties.
  • Utilizes key functions of shop management system and electronic documentation available.
  • Works in accordance with all federal / provincial and corporate compliance guidelines (i.e., safety, dot, mot)
  • Other support duties as required to support operations. These could include but are not limited to service island support.

  • Strong mechanical skills; ability to demonstrate proficiency with advanced diagnostics, overhaul and repair of all vehicle components and systems; perform all entry level tasks, road test vehicles as necessary
  • Ability to read and / or listen and understand information and ideas communicated
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly thorough and dependable; available for on call duty and work shift work / weekend
  • Ability to create and maintain professional relationships within all levels of the organization (peers, work groups, customers, supervisors)

License Required

  • A valid driver\'s license (Class G2 at least)

Qualifications

  • H.S. diploma / GED preferred
  • Vocational or Technical Certification preferred; Post Secondary degree or Technical Certifications
  • Basic tools, required
  • Demonstrated aptitude and applied experience in mechanical repair of automotive gas or diesel engines including: routine preventative maintenance (oil changes, brake and tire work), diagnostics and repairs (AC, electrical systems), advanced skilled repairs (major engine repairs, diesel after treatment or automotive fuel injection repairs)
  • Four (4) years or more relevant work experience preferred
  • Knowledge of and the ability to apply knowledge of computer skills: PC, Windows, mouse, etc. advanced required
  • Valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) CLASS A, preferred
  • All other certification as required by location, required
