Job summary

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in Chalk River, Ontario, is seeking a Winter Student Program - Design Student to contribute to workspace design, site planning and property management at Chalk River Laboratories.

You will create and update CAD drawings, assist with small design projects, and help maintain facility records while learning from a collaborative team. This is an on-site term offering hands-on experience in design, architecture, and engineering within a national lab setting.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a College or University program related to: Design, Architecture, Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience using AutoCAD through academic studies, projects, co-op placements, or personal experience.
  • Knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Creating and updating CAD drawings and files to support site planning and property management activities.
  • Assisting with small design projects and workspace planning initiatives.
  • Updating information within the Property Management Portal.
  • Performing space allocation reviews and verifications.
  • Completing building contact reviews and verification activities.
  • Supporting the maintenance of facility information and property records.
  • Assisting with the review and organization of design-related documentation.
  • Collaborating with team members to support ongoing planning and design projects.
  • Participating in meetings and project discussions as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

Are you looking for an opportunity to apply your design and technical skills in a professional environment? Can you see yourself as a Design Student, contributing to workspace design projects, site planning initiatives, and property management activities that support operations across the Chalk River Laboratories site? Do you enjoy working with CAD software, solving design challenges, and collaborating with a team that helps shape and maintain facility spaces? If you answered yes, then this may be the opportunity for you!

All students applying for student positions at CNL must be returning to full-time studies upon completion of their work term. Exceptions will be made for students who require a work term to graduate.

Field of Study: Design, Architecture, Engineering or a closely related discipline.
Year of study: 2nd or 3rd year

What you will be doing!

Creating and updating CAD drawings and files to support site planning and property management activities.

Assisting with small design projects and workspace planning initiatives.

Updating information within the Property Management Portal.

Performing space allocation reviews and verifications.

Completing building contact reviews and verification activities.

Supporting the maintenance of facility information and property records.

Assisting with the review and organization of design-related documentation.

What we are looking for:
  • Education
    • Currently enrolled in a College or University program related to:
      • Design.
      • Architecture.
      • Engineering.
      • Or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience
    • Experience using AutoCAD through academic studies, projects, co-op placements, or personal experience.
    • Experience supporting design, drafting, planning, or engineering-related projects is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Demonstrated working knowledge of AutoCAD.
    • Working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada.
    • Demonstrated interest in design, architecture, engineering, and facility planning.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated ability to review information for accuracy and completeness.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
    • Proven ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
    • Applied computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
    • Demonstrated willingness to learn and adapt in a professional work environment.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
  • Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
