Job summary

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) in Chalk River is seeking a Communications & Indigenous Engagement Student to support public communications and Indigenous relations activities. The role is 4 months (Jan–April) with a hybrid work arrangement at the Chalk River Laboratory, Ontario.

The successful student will be pursuing studies in Communications, Political Science, Canadian Law, or Environmental Studies and bring experience in Indigenous relations or communications, plus proficiency with

Responsibilities

  • Support information booths, meetings and site tours (virtual and in-person).
  • Prepare communications materials to support public communications and Indigenous engagement.
  • Assist in developing plain language materials for broader audiences.
  • Shadow communications and Indigenous engagement staff during engagement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Our Chalk River location is looking for a Communications & Indigenous Engagement Student to support public communications and Indigenous relations activities that contribute to CNL's mission to restore and protect the environment.

All students applying for student positions at CNL must be returning to full-time studies upon completion of their work term. Exceptions will be made for students who require a work term to graduate.

What you will be doing!
  • Supporting information booths, virtual and in-person meetings and site tours.
  • Preparing communications materials.
  • Supporting the development of plain language materials.
  • Shadowing Communications and Indigenous engagement staff during engagement activities.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
  • Education
    • Pursuing a degree in Political Science, communications, Canadian Law, or environmental Science.
  • Experience
    • Experience in and/or understanding of Indigenous Relations.
    • Experience with communications.
    • Experience with related software such as Microsoft.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Excellent attention to detail and presentation skills.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
  • Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
