Job summary

Canadian Nuclear Laboratories in Chalk River, Ontario, is offering a 4‑month student internship in Advanced Fuels & Reactor Physics. You will conduct plasma science experiments, set up facilities, and analyze data, while scheduling experiments and performing thermodynamic modelling.

Ideal candidates are 2nd year or higher in Engineering or Science, with lab experience and good communication. This on-site role requires Reliability Status with Site Access Clearance; compensation reflects a paid

What you will be doing!


  • Conducting plasma science experiments and setting up experimental facilities.

  • Conducting characterization analysis of the product.

  • Gathering and analyzing experimental data.

  • Performing scheduling of experiments.

  • Performing thermodynamic modelling simulations.

  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.


What we are looking for:


  • Education

    • Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Materials, Physics) or Science (Chemistry, Nanotechnology, Physics) majors.



  • Experience

    • Experience conducting scientific experiments.

    • Laboratory experience.



  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Demonstrated research abilities.

    • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.

    • Knowledge of modelling software such as FActsage and ANSYS is considered an asset.



  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required

    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”




Working Conditions:


  • Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week.
