We are looking for a BI Data Engineer to join a dynamic data team supporting a leading European institution in its digital transformation journey. The successful candidate will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of modern data platforms, data warehouses, and Business Intelligence solutions that support analytical reporting and decision-making across complex environmental and climate-related domains.
Working within an international and multicultural environment, you will play a key role in building scalable data pipelines, optimizing data architectures, enhancing reporting capabilities, and enabling data-driven insights through Microsoft Azure and Power BI technologies.
What you'll do
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT processes and data orchestration workflows using Microsoft Azure services, Python, and SQL.
- Build and enhance Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), Data Lake, and Lakehouse solutions to support advanced analytics and reporting.
- Gather and analyze business requirements, transforming functional needs into robust technical solutions.
- Design conceptual, logical, and physical data models, including dimensional models and star/snowflake schemas.
- Develop and maintain Business Intelligence solutions using Microsoft Power BI, including dashboards, semantic models, KPIs, and self-service reporting capabilities.
- Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing, partitioning, and storage optimization strategies.
- Implement data quality, monitoring, and observability frameworks to ensure trusted and reliable data assets.
- Define and execute testing activities, including data validation, regression testing, and CI/CD-integrated pipeline testing.
- Produce and maintain technical documentation, including data dictionaries, lineage documentation, design specifications, and operational runbooks.
- Support deployments, configuration management, and version control processes using Git and Azure DevOps.
- Perform ad hoc data analysis and reporting activities on complex datasets.
- Collaborate with technical teams, stakeholders, and external partners in an agile delivery environment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and the adoption of innovative data and AI-driven capabilities.
What we're looking for
- Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of professional experience with Python for data engineering and data processing.
- At least 2 years of experience working with SQL and relational database technologies.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure Data Factory.
- At least 2 years of experience with Microsoft Power BI and Business Intelligence solutions.
- At least 2 years of experience in data engineering, data management, analytics, and ETL/ELT development.
- Strong knowledge of Azure cloud data services, including Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2, and Microsoft Fabric.
- Solid understanding of data warehouse architecture, dimensional modelling, and modern data platform concepts.
- Experience with Power Query, DAX, semantic models, and self-service BI environments.
- Knowledge of modern Data Lake/Lakehouse architectures and data quality best practices.
- Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, and Agile delivery methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within multicultural and multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent communication skills in English (minimum B2 level).
- EU security clearance eligibility is required.
- Microsoft Azure Data Engineer, Power BI Data Analyst, Fabric Analytics Engineer, or equivalent certifications will be considered an asset.
