Job summary

Unisys is seeking an IT hardware technician to repair and service computer hardware on-site and in the field within the Mackay region. The role requires troubleshooting across laptops, desktops, servers, and networking gear, with the ability to replace components and perform basic configurations.

A valid Australian driver's license and willingness to travel are essential. Ideal candidates have 1–2 years' experience in hardware repair or desktop support, and familiarity with Windows environments.

Qualifications

Experience in computer hardware repair, field services, desktop support, or technical support environments.
Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills across laptop, desktop, and enterprise hardware platforms.
Experience performing break/fix maintenance on enterprise-class hardware, including servers, storage devices, desktop PCs, notebooks, and peripheral equipment.
Experience replacing and upgrading hardware components such as motherboards, power supplies, memory, storage devices, processors, screens, batteries, keyboards, SSDs, and other field-replaceable units.
Basic knowledge of server hardware diagnostics, RAID configurations, firmware updates, and component replacement procedures.
Practical experience with the installation, basic configuration, and cabling of network infrastructure, including switches, routers, wireless access points, and associated connectivity equipment.
Experience with equipment installation, rack mounting, patching, cable management, and basic site setup activities within enterprise customer environments.
Good understanding of Windows operating systems and desktop computing environments.
Experience working with Dell, Lenovo, HPE, Cisco, or other enterprise OEM hardware platforms is highly desirable.
Strong customer service, communication, and documentation skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple onsite service requests.
Experience in Apple Software.
OEM or manufacturer certifications are advantageous.
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification.
1-2 years of experience in computer hardware repair, field services, desktop support, or technical support environments.
Current Australian Driver's License and willingness to travel throughout the Mackay region.

Responsibilities

Repair and service computer hardware in field and onsite environments.
Troubleshoot and fault-find across laptops, desktops, and enterprise hardware.
Perform break/fix maintenance on servers, storage, desktops, notebooks, and peripherals.
Replace and upgrade components such as motherboards, power supplies, memory, storage, processors, screens, batteries, keyboards, SSDs.
Configure and cabling of network infrastructure including switches and routers.
Install equipment, rack mount, patch cables, and manage cabling.
Work independently and manage multiple onsite service requests.
Maintain knowledge of Windows and enterprise desktop environments.
Possess valid drivers license and willingness to travel Mackay region.
