Job summary

Collins Transport Group is seeking an experienced Local Operations Supervisor for the Derrimut depot in Melbourne. The role focuses on coordinating local refrigerated freight movements, supporting drivers and warehouse staff, and ensuring exceptional service to customers.

Ideal candidates have at least 3 years in a high-volume transport allocation role, with HVNL/CoR knowledge and strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years in a fast-paced heavy vehicle transport freight allocation role.
• Experience in refrigerated transport is preferred.
• Strong HVNL understanding including CoR, fatigue, mass and loading requirements.
• Solid knowledge of the Melbourne metro area.
• Excellent communication and customer service focus.
• Proven ability to lead operational teams with safety and compliance.
• Able to multitask and make quick, informed decisions.
• Computer literate with TMS and MS Office proficiency.
• Forklift licence (preferred).
• Full working rights in Australia.

Responsibilities

• Allocating and scheduling local PUD runs to meet customer booking times and delivery windows
• Coordinating drivers, forklift operators, and yard staff to keep freight moving efficiently
• Managing customer communication, including bookings, updates, and scheduling issues
• Monitoring daily run sheets, manifests, and consignment paperwork for accuracy
• Adjusting allocations quickly in response to absences, breakdowns or urgent jobs
• Overseeing loading/unloading of trailers
• Resolving and mediating employee conflict when required
• Maintaining a smooth, safe and productive depot environment

We’re seeking an experienced Local Operations Supervisor to help manage the daily operations of our Derrimut depot, coordinating local refrigerated freight movements, supporting drivers and warehouse staff, and ensuring our customers receive exceptional service every time.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Allocating and scheduling local PUD runs to meet customer booking times and delivery windows

• Coordinating drivers, forklift operators, and yard staff to keep freight moving efficiently

What You’ll Bring

• Proven experience (minimum 3 years) working in a fast-paced heavy vehicle transport freight allocation position (preferably with experience in refrigerated transport)

• Sound understanding of the Heavy Vehicle National Law (HVNL), including Chain of Responsibility (CoR), fatigue management, mass, dimension and loading requirements

• Strong knowledge of the Melbourne metro area

• Excellent communication skills with the ability to stay calm under pressure

• Customer service focus with demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and handle customer demands

• Proven ability to lead and influence operational teams, ensuring high standards of safety, compliance, accountability and performance are maintained.

• Ability to multitask, problem-solve and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment

• Computer literate with the ability to use TMS systems effectively in addition to Microsoft applications such as Word, Outlook and Excel

• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to clarify instructions, resolve conflict and support drivers

• Forklift licence/experience preferred however not essential

• Full working rights in Australia
