Job summary

Byron Shire Council is seeking a Utilities Systems Inspection Officer to protect the integrity of water and sewer systems, working directly with customers, contractors and the community.

This hands-on role combines field inspections, compliance, problem-solving and customer engagement. You will inspect, investigate and engage customers to achieve compliance while talking to contractors about obligations.

Qualifications

• Experience in water, wastewater, plumbing, drainage or related field.
• Strong customer service and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Confident communicator of technical/compliance requirements to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work independently in the field with good judgement and prioritisation.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections, testing and audits of water and sewer systems.
• Explain requirements to customers, property owners and contractors to support compliance.
• Investigate issues, review field information and support approvals and notices.
• Manage compliance programs across liquid trade waste, backflow, private infra and water reuse.
