Job summary

The Fair Work Ombudsman in Newcastle is seeking an Assistant Director – Criminal Investigations to lead a small team and drive complex investigations, including strategy development, evidence gathering and briefs for potential prosecution.

Role requires substantial investigative leadership and capability-building across the Branch, with collaboration across OFWO and external agencies to ensure high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Substantial recent experience leading complex criminal investigations.
• Experience preparing criminal briefs of evidence for prosecuting authorities.
• Practical knowledge of investigation powers and methods.
• Experience leading investigators and providing technical direction.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex criminal investigations, including strategy and evidence gathering.
• Undertake significant investigative work such as interviewing and preparing matters for prosecution.
• Supervise and develop a small team of investigators with coaching and feedback.
• Quality assure major investigations and briefs before submission to governance.
• Manage progression, priorities and risks of allocated investigations.
• Provide strategic advice on investigations and direction to the Director.
• Collaborate with external agencies (CDPP, AFP) and across OFWO.
