Job summary

Australian Fair Work Ombudsman in Brisbane seeks an experienced Assistant Director – Criminal Investigations to lead a small team of investigators and oversee complex criminal cases. The role requires strategic planning, evidence gathering, and high-level coordination with CDPP and AFP to advance enforcement outcomes.

The successful candidate will strengthen investigative capability across the branch, provide operational leadership, and drive best practice in criminal investigations and briefs

Qualifications

• Substantial experience leading complex criminal investigations and preparing briefs of evidence for prosecution.
• Experience guiding investigators and providing technical direction and QA of investigative work.
• Ability to interact with multiple agencies (CDPP, AFP) and senior decision makers.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex criminal investigations, including strategy, evidence gathering and use of investigative powers.
• Oversee and develop a small team, set expectations and provide coaching.
• Quality assure investigations and briefs of evidence before submission to the Director or governance forums.
• Collaborate with CDPP, AFP and other agencies to strengthen investigative capability.
