Job summary

Australian Fair Work Ombudsman in Sydney seeks an experienced Assistant Director – Criminal Investigations to lead a small team and provide operational and technical leadership on complex criminal investigations. You will prepare briefs of evidence for potential referral to the CDPP and strengthen investigative capability across the Branch.

The role requires substantial experience in criminal investigations, leadership, and collaboration with external agencies.

Qualifications

• Substantial recent experience conducting/leading complex criminal investigations.
• Significant responsibility for preparing briefs of evidence for prosecuting authority.
• Experience with investigation methods and powers (warrants, interviewing, evidence management).

Responsibilities

• Lead complex criminal investigations, develop strategy and lines of inquiry.
• Undertake significant investigative work including interviewing and evidence prep.
• Lead and develop a small team of investigators with coaching.
• Quality assure investigations and briefs before submission.
• Manage progression and risk of investigations; escalate issues.
• Provide strategic advice to Director; work with CDPP and AFP.
• Contribute to branch capability development.
