Job summary

The Fair Work Ombudsman seeks an experienced Assistant Director – Criminal Investigations to lead a small team and provide operational and technical leadership on complex criminal investigations and briefs of evidence for potential referral to the CDPP.

You will help build investigators' capability across the Criminal Investigations Branch and work with AF/CDPP and other agencies to deliver high-quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Substantial recent experience conducting and/or leading complex criminal investigations with responsibility for strategy and evidence gathering.
• Experience preparing criminal briefs of evidence for consideration by prosecutors.
• Practical experience with criminal investigation methods and powers (search warrants, interviews, evidence management).
• Experience leading investigators and providing technical direction and QA of investigative work.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex criminal investigations, including strategy, lines of inquiry, evidence gathering and lawful use of powers.
• Undertake significant investigative work when required, including interviewing and preparing matters for prosecution.
• Lead, supervise and develop a small team of investigators with clear expectations and coaching.
• Quality assure major investigative work and briefs before submission to governance forums.
