Job summary

The Fair Work Ombudsman is seeking an experienced Assistant Director – Criminal Investigations to lead a small team and provide operational and technical leadership on complex investigations. The role focuses on developing investigative capability across the branch and preparing briefs for potential prosecution.

You will work with the CDPP, AFP and other agencies to ensure high-quality investigations and robust evidence management, while building capability within OFWO’s Criminal Investigations

Qualifications

• Substantial recent experience leading complex criminal investigations.
• Experience preparing briefs of evidence for prosecuting authorities.
• Practical knowledge of investigative methods and powers.
• Experience leading investigators and quality assurance of investigative work.

Responsibilities

• Lead complex criminal investigations, including strategy and evidence gathering.
• Undertake significant investigative work including interviewing and preparing matters for prosecution.
• Lead, supervise and develop a small team of investigators.
• Quality assure significant investigative work and briefs before submission to the Director or governance forum.
• Ensure investigations test evidentiary gaps and meet disclosure and record-keeping standards.
• Collaborate with CDPP, AFP and other agencies to develop investigative capability.
