Job summary

Queensland Health invites applications for a permanent part-time Switchboard Operator role, based at the hospital. You will provide a professional and courteous service to staff and visitors, transferring calls correctly and within timeframes, in a 24/7 environment.

Key responsibilities include efficient operation of switchboard equipment, administrative duties, maintaining records, supporting paging systems, and coordinating emergency communications.

• Carry out general administrative duties to support daily operations.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently operate switchboard equipment by responding professionally to all incoming calls to the hospital ensuring that the caller is transferred or redirected correctly and in a timely manner.
• Perform general administrative duties to contribute to the effective daily operations of the switchboard department.
• Communicate regularly with all departments of the hospital to maintain accurate and current records for effective switchboard operations.
• Provide a service to support hospital staff in the allocation, coordination and fault repair of all pager units for the hospital.
• Operate alternative communication systems to regularly liaise with hospital staff in the event of an emergency or security response situation.
• Exercise judgment and initiative by identifying emergency situations from incoming calls and respond immediately according to emergency code procedures, strictly adhering to protocols and timeframes.
