Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for assessing, planning, and providing therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care services to patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders. The role ensures safe evidence-based and patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with clinical standards and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Clinical Responsibilities
- Assess, treat, and monitor patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders.
- Administer oxygen therapy, aerosolized medications, and mechanical ventilation support as prescribed.
- Conduct pulmonary function tests and other diagnostic procedures.
- Monitor and evaluate patient response to therapy, adjusting treatment plans as necessary.
- Provide emergency respiratory support, including airway management and resuscitation assistance.
- Educate patients and caregivers on respiratory care techniques, home oxygen use, and equipment maintenance.
Homecare & Equipment Management (if applicable)
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain respiratory equipment (e.g., ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP machines, oxygen concentrators).
- Ensure all equipment is properly sanitized, maintained, and compliant with infection control standards.
- Conduct home visits to assess patient condition, compliance, and safety of home environment for respiratory therapy.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, treatment logs, and reports.
- Ensure adherence to DOH/HAAD/MOH guidelines and internal clinical protocols.
- Participate in audits, incident reporting, and quality improvement initiatives.
Collaboration & Education
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to deliver coordinated patient care.
- Provide clinical input in developing patient care plans and protocols.
- Assist in training nursing and support staff on respiratory equipment and procedures.
Qualifications :
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Respiratory Therapy (recognized institution).
- Valid DOH/MOH/DHA license or eligibility as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Minimum 24 years of clinical experience in respiratory therapy, preferably in a hospital or homecare setting.
- Strong knowledge of respiratory equipment therapies and clinical best practices.
- Excellent patient assessment and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple patient cases.
