Job description
  • To be responsible for a clinical caseload and ensuring that the patient receives appropriate treatment to a high professional standard.

  • To remain legally accountable for all aspects of own work.

  • Work under the supervision of a Senior Physiotherapist and/or Line Manager.

  • Undertake comprehensive assessment of patients with diverse and complex presentations/multi-pathologies using clinical reasoning skills and physical assessment techniques to provide an accurate diagnosis for the physiotherapeutic management of their condition seeking support from senior colleagues as appropriate.

  • Take delegated responsibility from senior therapists for managing and treating patients with particular conditions.

  • Demonstrates sensitive and appropriate handling during the assessment process.

  • Formulate treatment plans and set goals in collaboration with the patient, carers and other team members, that are specific, measurable, achievable and relevant, with specified timeframe (SMART).

  • Select appropriate treatment techniques, this may include facilitation of normal movement, therapeutic handling, gait re‑education, chest physiotherapy, etc.

  • Monitor, evaluate and modify treatment in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.

  • Work closely with members of the multi‑disciplinary team, to ensure optimal outcomes for the patient.

  • To provide advice, teaching and instruction to patient, relatives and carers regarding their medical management and care needs to ensure a consistent approach to patient care, whilst promoting understanding of the aims of physiotherapy.

  • To prioritise and manage the clinical and non‑clinical responsibilities, of the post on a daily basis.

  • To be responsible for the safe use of equipment used within the therapy department, PPM’s are done according to the scheduled dates and report all malfunctioning equipment to Biomed.

  • Demonstrate safe airway clearance techniques, using the Airway clearance vest and CPT techniques in accordance with the guidelines formulated.

  • Carries out any procedure using an Aseptic Non Touch Technique safely, consistently, independently and effectively.

  • To use the following modalities in a safe and independent manner: Physical agent modalities, Electrotherapy modalities, Therapeutic Tub, Paraffin Wax Bath, Serial Casting and the Mobiliser if applicable.

  • Demonstrates clear and accurate documentation.

  • Completes relevant documentation to the required standard (eg., medical record , statistical information, referral letters/discharge summaries, monthly Daman reports).

  • Complies with organizational protocols and communication – completes MDT Initial screening within 72 hours; Initial Assessments – within 7 days of admission and Reassessments – every 12‑16 weeks.
