Job summary

InterContinental Abu Dhabi is seeking a passionate Commis I to join our luxury kitchen team. You will assist the Chef de Partie and senior colleagues in preparing, cooking, and presenting high-quality dishes, while developing your culinary skills in a professional luxury hospitality environment.

You will support mise en place, ensure food safety and hygiene, follow FIFO, and assist during busy service periods to maintain quality and efficiency in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Commis Chef, preferably within a hotel, resort, restaurant, or similar professional kitchen environment.
• Knowledge of basic and intermediate food preparation and cooking techniques.
• Good understanding of food safety, hygiene, and HACCP requirements.
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality, consistency, and presentation.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook food according to approved recipes, portion specifications, and presentation standards.
• Support Chef de Partie and Demi Chef de Partie in daily kitchen operations.
• Complete mise en place accurately and ensure the section is ready before service.
• Ensure food is prepared and presented consistently to hotel standards.
• Check ingredient quality and freshness before use.
• Follow instructions from senior colleagues and complete tasks efficiently.
• Assist during busy service periods to ensure accurate and timely orders.
• Maintain portion sizes and presentation to support quality and food cost control.
• Label, date, store, and rotate food according to FIFO.
• Monitor ingredients and inform seniors of shortages.
• Minimize food waste through proper prep, handling, and storage.
• Maintain cleanliness, hygiene, and organization in assigned kitchen area.
• Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils, and work areas.
