The BIM Technician supports the transformation of civil engineering concepts into accurate digital models and coordinated technical drawings for stormwater and wet utility systems. The role requires close collaboration with BIM Leads, Design Leads, and engineers to ensure that drainage layouts, utility arrangements, assemblies, profiles, and component details are correctly represented and suitable for multidisciplinary coordination. Reliable digital delivery helps reduce design clashes, improve information quality, and support efficient construction planning.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the BIM Lead and Design Leads to deliver assigned project outputs in accordance with approved policies and workflows.
- Produce CAD and BIM deliverables for stormwater drainage and wet utility infrastructure.
- Develop engineering drawings from design sketches, calculations, markups, and general technical information.
- Prepare basic arrangements, layouts, assemblies, flow sheets, isometrics, and component details.
- Maintain drafting standards and ensure deliverables are completed within agreed project timelines.
- Support BIM activities from project initialization through design completion.
- Apply established BIM processes across model creation, coordination, review, and issue stages.
- Check drawings for readability, completeness, presentation, and technical consistency.
- Follow company QA/QC procedures before models or drawings are submitted.
- Create project-specific parametric families where intelligent BIM content is required.
- Produce non-parametric families and supporting content for simpler project elements.
- Apply appropriate Level of Development requirements to model elements.
- Maintain consistent object information and model organization.
- Use Autodesk Navisworks for federated model review.
- Perform clash detection between drainage, wet utilities, structures, roads, and other disciplines.
- Prepare clash reports and communicate coordination issues to relevant design teams.
- Assist with resolution and closure of identified model conflicts.
- Generate schedules from BIM models where required.
- Extract model-based quantities to support engineering and design reviews.
- Check extracted quantities for consistency with model geometry and design information.
- Produce and revise Civil 3D drawings related to drainage and utility infrastructure.
- Prepare AutoCAD documentation for design packages and technical submissions.
- Use MicroStation where project or client requirements call for Bentley-based drafting.
- Update drawings and models following approved design revisions.
- Maintain drawing histories and ensure current information is properly controlled.
- Support multidisciplinary coordination meetings with updated digital information.
- Incorporate engineering comments and review markups into revised deliverables.
- Work within the approved Common Data Environment for document and model exchange.
- Use ProjectWise for managed file sharing and design collaboration where applicable.
