Role Context

The BIM CAD Technician will provide digital design and drafting support to stormwater drainage and wet utilities teams throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with BIM Leads, Design Leads, and engineers, the role transforms engineering concepts, calculations, sketches, and design information into coordinated drawings and models suitable for review, construction, and project delivery. Accurate modeling, controlled information management, and disciplined drawing production will help reduce coordination conflicts and improve the efficiency of infrastructure design development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with the BIM Lead, Design Leads, and engineering teams to implement project BIM standards, procedures, and delivery requirements.
  • Produce engineering drawings for stormwater drainage and wet utility systems using approved CAD and BIM workflows.
  • Develop layouts, arrangements, flow sheets, assemblies, isometric drawings, and component details from engineering sketches and design information.
  • Convert preliminary design information into coordinated technical drawings that meet established drafting standards.
  • Maintain BIM models from project initiation through design development and final delivery.
  • Apply appropriate modeling methods in accordance with project-specific BIM requirements.
  • Review drawings before issue to confirm readability, consistency, technical presentation, and compliance with established standards.
  • Follow project QA/QC procedures and incorporate review comments into updated drawings and models.
  • Develop parametric and non-parametric BIM families required for infrastructure and utility modeling.
  • Manage family parameters, geometry, naming conventions, and model content to support consistent project use.
  • Apply Level of Development requirements appropriate to each design stage.
  • Maintain model detail and information in accordance with agreed LOD requirements.
  • Use Autodesk Navisworks to review multidisciplinary models and identify spatial conflicts.
  • Perform clash detection between utilities, structures, roads, drainage systems, and other project disciplines.
  • Generate clash reports and support coordination teams in resolving identified conflicts.
  • Update coordinated models after approved design changes and clash resolution.
  • Produce model-based schedules and quantity extractions where required.
  • Check extracted quantities against model content before issue.
  • Support preparation of drawing registers, model deliverables, and digital engineering records.
  • Maintain accurate drawing revisions and file naming in accordance with project document control requirements.
  • Use ProjectWise or Autodesk Construction Cloud as the project Common Data Environment where applicable.
  • Upload, retrieve, coordinate, and manage engineering information within approved CDE workflows.
  • Support stormwater drainage layouts, utility corridors, pipe alignments, chambers, manholes, and associated infrastructure details.
  • Coordinate wet utility models with road geometry, structures, existing services, and proposed networks.
  • Assist engineers with modifications arising from design reviews, authority comments, or coordination meetings.
  • Maintain consistency between BIM models, CAD drawings, schedules, and issued engineering information.
  • Participate in design and BIM coordination reviews as required.
  • Complete assigned drafting and modeling activities within agreed project schedules.
Ideal Profile

Candidates should hold a diploma or Bachelor 's degree in Civil Engineering.

A minimum of 5 years of CAD drafting experience in the Middle East or UAE is required, with practical involvement in wet utilities projects.

Applicants should have direct experience producing drawings and models for stormwater drainage, utility networks, or related civil infrastructure.

Strong working knowledge of MicroStation, Autodesk Civil 3D, and AutoCAD is required.

Candidates should understand BIM processes, model coordination, project setup, information exchange, and digital delivery requirements.

Practical knowledge of Level of Development requirements is essential.

Experience creating both parametric and non-parametric BIM content will be valuable.

Applicants should understand how coordinated utility models interact with roads, drainage networks, structures, and other infrastructure disciplines.

Experience using Autodesk Navisworks for model review, clash detection, and clash reporting is advantageous.

Candidates familiar with ProjectWise and Autodesk Construction Cloud will be well suited to project information management requirements.

The ability to extract schedules and quantities directly from coordinated models is expected.

Applicants should demonstrate strong drawing presentation, accuracy, file management, and QA/QC discipline.
