Role Context
The Senior BIM CAD Technician will support the digital delivery of infrastructure projects by managing complex utility models, coordinating design information across disciplines, and maintaining dependable drawing and model outputs from project startup through completion. The role has a strong focus on wet and dry utilities, utility pipe network modeling, clash management, model review, document control, and Common Data Environment processes. Effective coordination will help reduce design conflicts, protect project timelines, and improve the quality of submissions issued to clients and authorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, modify, and manage BIM models and CAD drawings for multidisciplinary infrastructure projects.
- Support wet and dry utility design packages throughout concept, detailed design, submission, and revision stages.
- Coordinate closely with CAD Managers, BIM Managers, Design Leads, and engineers to maintain project delivery requirements.
- Track design inputs from different disciplines and identify missing or conflicting information.
- Coordinate CAD and BIM teams to ensure interfaces, clashes, and submission deadlines are managed effectively.
- Prepare engineering arrangements, layouts, flow sheets, assemblies, isometrics, and detailed components from sketches and engineering information.
- Manage BIM activities from initial project setup through final model and drawing delivery.
- Maintain accurate model structures, references, coordinates, and digital project information.
- Review drawings for readability, technical presentation, completeness, and adherence to project standards.
- Apply QA-QC checks before models and drawings are issued.
- Develop parametric and non-parametric BIM content for infrastructure requirements.
- Prepare utility pipe network models and associated infrastructure layouts.
- Perform clash detection and support resolution of model conflicts between utilities and other disciplines.
- Produce schedules and extract quantities from BIM models.
- Maintain complete records of design changes, model updates, and drawing revisions.
- Manage digital archiving of completed drawings, models, and related technical documentation.
- Maintain organized Common Data Environment structures for controlled access and retrieval.
- Coordinate design discrepancies with Team Leads, engineers, and other technical disciplines.
- Implement quality control measures that identify modeling and drafting errors early in the design cycle.
- Support issue management and model-based design reviews.
- Customize CAD tools and workflows where practical to improve production efficiency.
- Assist with Right of Way related drawings and infrastructure cross sections.
- Prepare routing plans for wet and dry utility corridors.
- Apply appropriate Level of Development requirements across project stages.
- Support compliance with ISO 19650 principles where required.
- Incorporate DEWA, Dubai Municipality, and RTA requirements into applicable infrastructure models and drawings.
- Coordinate existing utility information with proposed design networks.
- Support internal BIM training and technical knowledge sharing when required.
- Resolve drafting, modeling, and coordination challenges while maintaining submission deadlines.
Ideal Profile Candidates
- Bachelor 's degree or diploma in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum 10 years of CAD drafting and BIM experience in the MEA or UAE region.
- Strong background in wet and dry utility infrastructure projects.
- Minimum 3 years of utility pipe network modeling experience.
- Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Strong working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D.
- Extensive experience with Navisworks.
- MicroStation knowledge is preferred.
- Advanced understanding of Common Data Environment workflows.
- Experience using Autodesk Construction Cloud related platforms.
- Practical knowledge of Bentley ProjectWise.
- Strong understanding of BIM processes from project setup through closeout.
- Detailed knowledge of Level of Development requirements.
- Experience with clash detection and issue management.
- Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary infrastructure models.
- Familiarity with model-based design review procedures.
- Knowledge of ISO 19650 is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of DEWA standards.
- Familiarity with Dubai Municipality requirements.
- Knowledge of RTA infrastructure standards.
