Role: Assistant Professor for Academic English and Approaches to Learning – Global College

Grade: 7

Reporting Line: Head of Global College Dubai

About our Team

The Global College brings together academic pathways and pre‑sequential English provision across Dubai, Malaysia, and Scotland. It supports Heriot Watt in widening access for both local and international students, and runs the most successful degree entry programme in the UAE, with over 600 students enrolled in the 2025‑26 academic year.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Develop and deliver engaging Academic English and APL curriculum for students, ensuring alignment with academic standards and educational objectives.
  2. Utilise a variety of instructional strategies and resources to accommodate diverse learning styles and promote student engagement and understanding.
  3. Assess student progress through assignments, exams, projects, and other forms of evaluation, providing constructive feedback and support for individual growth.
  4. Attend and contribute to Course Boards and Assessment Boards as appropriate.
  5. Contribute to the administration associated with the course delivery.
  6. Participate in external engagement activities for the Global College.
  7. Stay informed about current trends, developments, and best practices in Academic English and APL, participating in professional development activities and conferences as appropriate.
  8. Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and a passion for learning.
Education and Qualifications
Essential Criteria
  • Degree in relevant discipline.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • Experience of Academic English or Academic Skills at Higher Secondary or University Foundation level.
  • Teaching experience within the British Education system.
  • Effective student engagement skills.
  • Collaborative approach to work.
  • Ability to set and monitor quality standards.
Desirable Criteria
  • Masters in relevant discipline.
  • Expertise in one or more other courses within the Global College Dubai programmes.
  • Experience of course/programme level management.
  • Experience of developing innovative learning via VLE.
  • Ability to develop academic leadership at course /programme level.

Appointment Conditions

The appointment is conditional upon successful completion of all Labour and Immigration formalities, and the start date will need to be delayed if the employment visa is not in place.

Attestation Requirements

Successful candidates will need to either provide terminal degrees attested from a UAE institution accredited by the CAA or, if the degree is not from a UAE institution, the candidate will need to have MoE (Ministry of Education) equivalency. The candidate is responsible for getting their degree attestations done within six months of joining.
