New Assistant Professors will undertake a 5‑year development programme at the end of which they are expected to be promoted to Associate Professor. The programme consists of a variety of development opportunities and the time to reflect and develop.
As an Assistant Professor in Biomedical Science you will join a vibrant team of academic staff and make a substantial contribution to the management development and delivery of the highly successful BSc Biomedical Science and Foundation programme on our Dubai campus. Through excellent teaching you will inspire students be informed by discipline‑based research as well as contribute to the leadership management and administration of the programme in Dubai. We are looking for candidates with extensive teaching experience at undergraduate level in the Biomedical Sciences that can teach and assess across a wide range of biomedical disciplines although experience in teaching human physiology would be a particular advantage.
You will contribute to a range of education‑related activities to include small group teaching lectures and practical classes as well as adopting innovative methods of teaching. In addition you will be expected to demonstrate academic citizenship developing and maintaining mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all staff (in both Dubai and our Edgbaston campus) and students and ensuring the way you carry out your role impacts positively on how others carry out theirs.
Teaching is likely to include a substantial contribution to the management development and delivery of teaching and assessment at all levels which will involve a close working relationship with Biomedical Science module leads on our Edgbaston campus and the Birmingham International Academy. You will play an important role in student academic and developmental support. You will also contribute to student recruitment activity through Open Days and you will have the opportunity to fully engage in widening participation and outreach activity.
Furthermore the successful candidates will work closely with the Head of CMH Subject Group, Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, the Head of Education for the School and the Programme Directors for the BSc and MSci in Biomedical Science (Dubai and Edgbaston).
Management and administration is likely to include developing and making substantial contributions to knowledge transfer enterprise business engagement public engagement widening participation schools outreach or similar activities at Department/School level or further within the University.
