Placements24 is seeking a skilled Substation Technician to join our field operations team in Kimberley. You will install, maintain, and repair substation equipment, ensuring reliable transmission and distribution of power in outdoor environments.

A strong technical background in electrical systems and safety compliance is essential. The role requires reading schematics, performing diagnostic testing, and supporting commissioning and decommissioning activities while adhering to lockout/tagout

Qualifications

• Trade qualification or technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience working with electrical substations or high-voltage equipment.
• Proficiency in testing and troubleshooting electrical equipment using specialized tools.
• Solid understanding of electrical safety principles and practices.
• Ability to travel to different sites as needed.

Responsibilities

• Install, inspect, maintain, and repair substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and relays.
• Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting on high-voltage electrical systems.
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and company procedures, including lockout/tagout protocols.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
• Assist in the commissioning of new equipment and the decommissioning of old equipment.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, test results, and equipment status.
