About the Role
Our client, a major player in the power distribution network , is seeking a dedicated Substation Engineer to join their operational team in Vereeniging . This role is critical for ensuring the integrity, reliability, and safety of our electrical substations. You will be responsible for the design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of substation equipment, including transformers, switchgear, circuit breakers, and protection systems. Key Responsibilities
- Design and specify electrical equipment for substation projects, ensuring compliance with standards and project requirements.
- Oversee the construction, installation, and commissioning of new substations and upgrades.
- Develop and implement comprehensive maintenance and testing programs for substation assets.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose faults in substation equipment and systems, implementing timely and effective repairs.
- Conduct site inspections and safety audits to ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and project status updates for management.
- Collaborate with field crews, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in substation engineering, design, or operations.
- In-depth knowledge of substation equipment (transformers, switchgear, protection relays, etc.) and their operation.
- Experience with power system studies and analysis tools is advantageous.
- Professional Engineer (Pr.Eng) registration with ECSA is a strong plus.
- Proficiency in relevant engineering software and documentation practices.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills.
- Must be able to work full-time on-site in Vereeniging .
