Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a skilled Substation Technician to join our field operations team in Kimberley. You will install, maintain, and repair substation equipment, ensuring reliable transmission and distribution of power in outdoor environments.

A strong technical background in electrical systems and safety compliance is essential. The role requires reading schematics, performing diagnostic testing, and supporting commissioning and decommissioning activities while adhering to lockout/tagout

Qualifications

Trade qualification or technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
Minimum of 3 years of experience working with electrical substations or high-voltage equipment.
Proficiency in testing and troubleshooting electrical equipment using specialized tools.
Solid understanding of electrical safety principles and practices.
Ability to travel to different sites as needed.

Responsibilities

Install, inspect, maintain, and repair substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and relays.
Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting on high-voltage electrical systems.
Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety regulations and company procedures, including lockout/tagout protocols.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
Assist in the commissioning of new equipment and the decommissioning of old equipment.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, test results, and equipment status.
