About the Role
The Sub-Station Erector is a critical role within the electrical infrastructure sector, focusing on the assembly, installation, and maintenance of electrical substations. You will work closely with project managers and engineers to ensure that substations are erected efficiently, safely, and in compliance with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble and install electrical components in substations, including transformers, switchgear, and circuit breakers.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to execute installation plans accurately.
- Collaborate with the project team to ensure adherence to safety regulations during substation erection.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify defects and ensure the integrity of electrical systems.
- Assist in the testing and commissioning of substations to ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain accurate records of installation processes, modifications, and maintenance activities.
- Provide on-site training and support for junior staff and apprentices as required.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety guidelines during all project activities.
Requirements
- Proven track record in the erection and installation of electrical substations or similar infrastructure.
- Demonstrable experience in working with high voltage equipment and associated safety standards.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and documentation effectively.
- Strong knowledge of electrical safety regulations and best practices.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate clearly with colleagues and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant certifications in electrical installation or safety practices, such as NQF Level 4 or higher.
- Experience with maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
- Familiarity with project management principles and practices.
- First aid certification or other relevant training in safety management.
