Qualifications

About the Role

Our client is looking for a skilled and safety-conscious Substation Technician to join their team in Nelspruit . You will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, testing, and repair of electrical equipment within power substations, ensuring the reliable delivery of electricity. This role requires a strong understanding of high-voltage electrical systems, adherence to strict safety protocols, and the ability to work effectively in a field environment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented and committed to maintaining the integrity and functionality of critical energy infrastructure in the Mpumalanga region.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine and emergency maintenance on substation equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, and switchgear.
• Conduct testing and commissioning of new and existing substation apparatus.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical faults and failures, implementing timely and effective repairs.
• Ensure all work is performed in strict accordance with safety regulations and company procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance, testing, and repairs for all substation equipment.

Requirements

• National Diploma in Electrical Engineering or a relevant trade qualification (e.g., Electrician with high-voltage experience).
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working with high-voltage substation equipment .
• Proficiency in using testing equipment and diagnostic tools for electrical systems.
• Strong knowledge of electrical safety practices and lockout/tagout procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings for the Nelspruit area.
