Placements24 is seeking a Senior Telecommunications Field Technician for a client in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal. The role covers on-site installation, maintenance, and repair of telecom equipment at customer sites and remote locations to ensure high service standards and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate will have fibre optic splicing/termination experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and solid IP networking knowledge. A valid driver's license and safety focus are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of proven experience as a Telecommunications Field Technician or similar role.
• Strong fibre optic splicing, termination, and testing experience (OTDR, power meters).
• Proficiency with DSL, ADSL, VDSL, and wireless systems.
• Knowledge of IP networking (TCP/IP, Ethernet, Wi‑Fi).
• Ability to read and interpret complex schematics and diagrams.
• Good physical condition and ability to work at heights.
• Valid driver's license with clean record.

Responsibilities

• Install, configure, test, and maintain telecom equipment (routers, switches, modems, fibre termination points).
• Perform routine maintenance and diagnostics on network infrastructure.
• Troubleshoot and repair faults, identify root causes, implement solutions.
• Respond to service calls and emergency repair requests promptly.
• Interpret drawings, blueprints, and manuals to guide work.
• Ensure safety and quality per standards and practices.
• Maintain accurate service reports and inventory records.
• Provide basic technical support and training to end-users.
• Adhere to quality control and customer service standards.
• Mentor junior field technicians and work well in teams or independently.

Key Responsibilities

Requirements

• Relevant technical qualification or certification in Telecommunications, Electronics, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of proven experience as a Telecommunications Field Technician or similar role.
• Strong hands-on experience with fibre optic splicing, termination, and testing (OTDR, power meters).
• Proficiency in installing and troubleshooting DSL, ADSL, VDSL, and wireless communication systems.
• Knowledge of IP networking, including TCP/IP, Ethernet, and Wi‑Fi standards.
• Ability to read and interpret complex technical schematics and diagrams.
• Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
• Good physical condition with the ability to work at heights and in various environmental conditions.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record is essential.
• Strong customer service orientation and effective communication skills.
• Experience in the telecoms industry is required.
• Familiarity with local safety regulations and practices in KwaZulu-Natal.
