You will lead field operations, perform site surveys, coordinate installations and upgrades, and ensure safety and service quality standards are met.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in a lead or senior telecoms role.
• Practical fiber optic installation, splicing and testing experience.

• Ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of field technicians, ensuring safety and quality.
• Install, configure, test and maintain telecom equipment, including fiber, routers and switches, at customer sites.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot network and equipment issues and resolve them swiftly.
• Respond to service calls and emergencies with rapid resolution.
• Conduct site surveys and plan installations and upgrades.
• Maintain records of work, inventory and service reports for Cape Town.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a motivated and experienced Lead Telecoms Field Technician to oversee installation, maintenance, and repair operations in the Cape Town area. This hands‑on leadership role requires a deep understanding of telecommunications infrastructure, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to guide a team of technicians effectively. You will be responsible for ensuring the quality and efficiency of field operations, acting as a technical point of contact for complex issues, and upholding the highest standards of service delivery for our client's customers. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned technician to take on greater responsibility and contribute to critical infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of field technicians, providing technical guidance and ensuring adherence to safety and quality standards.
• Install, configure, test, and maintain telecommunications equipment, including fiber optic cables, routers, and switches, at customer sites.
• Perform diagnostic testing and troubleshooting of network and equipment issues, resolving problems efficiently.
• Respond to service calls and emergency situations, ensuring rapid and effective resolution of network disruptions.
• Conduct site surveys and assessments to plan and execute network installations and upgrades.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, equipment inventory, and service reports for the Cape Town region.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Telecoms Field Technician , with at least 5 years in a lead or senior capacity.
• Strong practical knowledge of fiber optic installation, splicing, and testing techniques.
• Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing issues with DSL, VoIP, and other telecommunications systems.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
• Excellent customer service skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Valid driver's license and a clean driving record are essential for field operations in Western Cape .
