Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a reliable Telecommunications Field Technician to join the operations team in Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas. The role involves installation, maintenance, and repair of telecom equipment, including fiber optics and customer premises gear, to ensure high-quality services for the Eastern Cape community.

This on-site position requires a minimum of 2 years in the field, familiarity with OTDRs and testers, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification is a plus.
• Minimum of 2 years as a field technician in telecommunications.
• Proficiency with OTDRs, cable testers, and network analyzers.

Responsibilities

• Install, test, and maintain fiber optic cables, network devices, and customer equipment.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot telecommunications systems and identify root causes.
• Respond promptly to service calls and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Follow safety protocols and document work performed.
• Collaborate with network operations to resolve complex issues remotely.

About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a reliable and skilled Telecommunications Field Technician to join their operations team serving Port Elizabeth and surrounding areas. This hands-on role involves the installation, maintenance, and repair of telecommunications equipment and infrastructure, including fiber optic cables, network devices, and customer premises equipment. You will be the primary point of contact for on-site technical support, ensuring the quality and reliability of our services. Key Responsibilities

• Install, connect, test, and maintain fiber optic cables, network devices, and customer equipment at various sites.
• Perform diagnostics and troubleshoot issues with telecommunications systems, identifying root causes of problems.
• Respond promptly to service calls and repair requests, ensuring customer satisfaction.
• Adhere to safety protocols and industry best practices during all field operations.
• Document work performed, including installation details, test results, and any issues encountered.
• Collaborate with the network operations center to resolve complex technical problems remotely.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in telecommunications or electronics is a plus.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a field technician in the telecommunications industry.
• Proficiency in using testing equipment such as OTDRs, cable testers, and network analyzers.
• Familiarity with copper and fiber optic cabling standards and installation techniques.
• A valid driver's license and a clean driving record are essential.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
