Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Telecommunications Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain complex IP networks in a hybrid Midrand-based role. You will manage routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers, ensuring uptime, scalability, and security across a growing telecom environment.

The ideal candidate has 7+ years in telecom network engineering, deep IP networking expertise, and hands-on experience with Cisco/Juniper/Huawei equipment, plus familiarity with SolarWinds, Nagios

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in CS/EE/Telecommunications or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive telecom network engineering experience.
• Proven expertise in IP networking and routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) and MPLS.
• Hands-on experience with major vendors' equipment (Cisco/Juniper/Huawei).
• Strong understanding of security (firewalls, VPNs, IDS/IPS).
• Experience with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG).
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and manage complex IP networks including BGP/OSPF/MPLS.
• Oversee deployment and configuration of routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
• Develop and maintain network documentation and SOPs.
• Monitor performance and proactively address uptime and efficiency.
• Troubleshoot complex incidents with cross-functional teams.
• Evaluate and recommend new network technologies to support business objectives.
• Ensure security policies are implemented and followed.
• Collaborate with vendors/service providers to ensure quality delivery.
• Mentor junior network engineers with technical guidance.
