Placements24 is seeking a Senior Telecoms Systems Engineer to join our client in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. You will design, deploy and optimize core network architectures, leveraging IP networking, MPLS, DWDM and 5G Core to deliver scalable, reliable connectivity.

The role requires at least seven years of telecoms systems engineering experience, with strong TCP/IP, SIP, SS7, LTE and 5G NR expertise, plus leadership and cross-functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or related field.
• Master's degree is a plus.
• 7+ years of experience in telecommunications systems engineering, design and deployment.
• In-depth knowledge of telecom network architectures (IP networking, MPLS, DWDM, 5G Core).
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design and architect robust telecommunications systems including core networks, transport and access.
• Evaluate hardware and software technologies to meet system requirements.
• Develop detailed system specifications, integration plans and testing procedures.
• Lead troubleshooting for complex system issues with rapid resolution.
• Collaborate with R&D, operations and product management for successful deployments.
• Monitor performance and implement optimization strategies.
• Stay updated on telecom technologies, standards and best practices.
• Provide mentorship to junior engineers and document procedures.
• Participate in vendor evaluations and manage technology partner relationships.
