Job summary

Placements24 in Centurion, Gauteng is seeking a Senior Sound Designer to craft immersive audio for next‑gen games. You will implement high-fidelity sound effects, ambient audio, and interactive audio systems using industry-standard middleware.

Collaborate with designers, narrative teams, and audio engineers to elevate gameplay and mood. Required 6+ years in game audio, with leadership experience on shipped titles, and proficiency in Wwise/FMOD, DAWs, and major game engines.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in sound design for video games.
• Proven track record as a Senior Sound Designer or Lead Audio on at least two shipped titles.
• Expertise with Wwise and/or FMOD and implementation of interactive audio systems.
• Proficiency in DAWs (Pro Tools, Cubase, Reaper) and audio editing software.
• Strong understanding of game engines and their audio integration pipelines.
• Solid knowledge of acoustics, signal processing, and mixing techniques.
• Ability to create realistic and fantastical sounds from scratch using synthesis and field recording.
• Excellent communication and teamwork to collaborate across disciplines.
• Bachelor's degree in Sound Design, Music Technology, Game Development, or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, create, and implement high-quality sound effects, Foley, and environmental audio for video games.
• Develop and integrate interactive audio systems using middleware to respond to gameplay events.
• Collaborate with designers and writers to support gameplay mechanics and storytelling.
• Record, edit, and mix assets to meet platform specs and artistic direction.
• Lead and mentor junior sound designers and interns with technical guidance and feedback.
• Manage audio assets, version control, and integration into the game engine.
• Stay updated on trends in game audio and explore innovative sound design approaches.
• Conduct audio QA testing to identify and resolve bugs or issues.
• Contribute to the overall audio vision and direction of projects.
• Mix final audio for games with balanced soundscapes across playback systems.
