Job summary

Placements24 in East London, Eastern Cape, ZA is seeking a Senior Sound Designer to craft immersive audio for interactive experiences. You will conceptualize, design, and implement sound from Foley to music integration within game engines.

The role requires a creative visionary with strong acoustics knowledge, proficiency in DAWs and middleware (Wwise, FMOD), and experience with Unreal Engine or Unity. You will mentor juniors and push the sonic landscape of our client’s titles.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in sound design for interactive media or games.
• Proficiency with DAWs (Pro Tools, Reaper, Logic Pro) and audio middleware (Wwise, FMOD).
• Experience with game engine audio systems (Unreal Engine, Unity).
• Strong understanding of acoustics, signal processing, and audio mixing techniques.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• A portfolio showcasing a range of interactive audio work.
• Ability to mentor junior sound designers and provide technical direction.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize and design immersive soundscapes and audio assets for interactive projects.
• Record, edit, and mix high-quality sound effects, Foley, and voiceovers.
• Implement audio assets using middleware such as Wwise or FMOD, and in game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity.
• Collaborate with game designers, programmers, and artists to ensure audio enhances gameplay and narrative.
• Develop and maintain audio pipelines and workflows for efficient asset creation and integration.
• Oversee technical aspects of audio implementation and cross‑platform performance.
• Mentor junior sound designers, providing creative direction and technical guidance.
• Stay abreast of the latest audio technologies, techniques, and industry best practices.
