Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Sound Designer in Benoni, Gauteng, to craft immersive audio for video games, VR/AR, and interactive installations. You will create, implement, and mix all audio elements, collaborating with designers and developers to shape the sonic direction and narrative depth.

You will work with DAWs (Pro Tools, Logic Pro X, Cubase, Ableton Live) and audio middleware (Wwise, FMOD), ensuring high-quality, performance-optimized sound across multiple platforms.

Qualifications

• Proven professional experience as a Sound Designer with a strong portfolio in video games or interactive media.
• Proficiency with DAWs and industry-standard audio tooling.
• Experience with audio middleware such as Wwise or FMOD and game engines like Unity/Unreal.

Responsibilities

• Design, create, and implement high-quality sound effects, Foley, ambiance, and voiceovers for interactive projects.
• Use synthesis, sampling, processing, and mixing techniques to shape sounds.
• Integrate audio assets into game engines using audio middleware.
• Collaborate with designers, artists, and developers to define audio direction.
• Mix and balance audio to create immersive, spatial soundscapes.
• Record and edit dialogue and VO assets as needed.
• Optimize assets for performance across platforms.
• Maintain and organize a library of sound assets.
• Stay updated with advances in audio tech and practices.
• Troubleshoot audio bugs and QA audio quality.
