Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a Senior Sound Designer for our Centurion, Gauteng, ZA studio to craft immersive audio for interactive experiences. You will drive end-to-end sound design from concept to final mix, collaborating with designers, artists, and engineers within a fast-paced game development environment.

You should bring at least five years of professional experience, a strong portfolio, and hands-on expertise with DAWs and middleware.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of professional sound design in games or interactive media.
• Strong portfolio of game/VR audio work.
• Proficiency with DAWs: Pro Tools, Reaper, or Logic Pro.
• Experience with audio middleware: Wwise or FMOD; knowledge of game engines Unreal/Unity.

Responsibilities

• Design, record, edit, and mix high-quality sound effects and ambient audio for interactive experiences.
• Collaborate with game designers, artists, and engineers to integrate audio into the game engine.
• Develop innovative audio systems and implement them using middleware like Wwise or FMOD.
• Create dynamic, responsive audio that adapts to gameplay events and actions.
• Lead sound design sessions and mentor junior sound designers.
• Manage audio asset libraries and ensure efficient workflow for sound implementation.
• Oversee audio post-production for technical and artistic quality.
• Conduct field or studio recordings as needed.
• Develop and maintain the overall sonic identity and project aesthetics.
• Champion best practices in game audio design and implementation.
• Troubleshoot audio-related issues during development.
• Contribute to narrative and emotional impact of the game through sound.
