Job summary

Placements24 is seeking a dedicated Process Safety Engineer to enhance safety protocols within the chemical and energy sectors, remote with occasional site visits to Mossel Bay. You will identify, evaluate and mitigate process hazards to protect people, environment and assets.

The role focuses on implementing robust safety management systems, training personnel, and driving continual safety performance through PHAs, PSM, MOC reviews and incident investigations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in process safety in chemical/energy industries.
• In-depth knowledge of PSM principles (e.g., OSHA PSM, Seveso Directive) and risk assessment methodologies.
• Experience with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and quantitative risk assessment (QRA) is advantageous.
• Proven ability to develop and implement effective safety procedures and training.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, What-If, and FMEA studies, for new and existing processes.
• Develop and implement Process Safety Management (PSM) programs aligned with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Review Management of Change (MOC) requests to ensure process safety implications are adequately addressed.
• Investigate process safety incidents, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Develop and deliver process safety training programs to relevant personnel.
• Audit compliance with PSM elements and provide recommendations for continuous improvement in safety performance.
