Job summary

Placements24 in Stellenbosch is seeking a proactive Process Safety Engineer to strengthen safety protocols in chemical and energy operations. You will identify hazards, assess risks and implement robust safety management systems to protect personnel, the environment and assets.

The role requires a Bachelor's in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, at least 6 years in process safety, and deep knowledge of PHA methods, SIS and IEC 61511, plus a track record delivering PSM programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 6 years in process safety with emphasis on chemical/energy hazards.
• In-depth knowledge of PHA methodologies and risk assessment techniques.
• Familiarity with safety instrumented systems (SIS) and IEC 61511 standards.
• Experience in developing and implementing Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.

Responsibilities

• Conduct PHAs such as HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA to identify and evaluate risks.
• Develop and implement safety procedures, policies, and standards for chemical and energy processes.
• Oversee design and implementation of safety systems including ESD and relief devices.
• Perform risk assessments and manage the implementation of recommendations to reduce risk.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, determining root causes and corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry best practices.
