Job summary

Our client in Klerksdorp, North West, ZA seeks a Senior Power Systems Engineer to lead design, analysis, and optimization of electrical power systems. You will guide projects, mentor junior staff, and ensure reliability and safety across HV and MV networks.

Requirements include a Master's in Electrical Power Engineering and 7+ years in design, analysis, and operation, with proficiency in PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD or DIgSILENT. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in Electrical Power Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 7 years in power systems design, analysis, and operation.
• Proficiency with power system simulation software such as PSS/E, ETAP, PSCAD, or DIgSILENT PowerFactory.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze high-voltage and medium-voltage electrical power systems.
• Perform load flow studies, short-circuit calculations, transient stability analysis, and protection coordination studies.
• Develop and implement protection schemes for generators, transmission lines, transformers, and substations.
• Specify and procure power system equipment, including transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, and protective relays.
• Conduct power quality assessments and implement solutions to mitigate issues such as harmonics and voltage sags.
• Develop and maintain operational guidelines and technical standards for power systems.
• Lead and participate in technical reviews and project meetings.
• Provide expert technical support and troubleshooting for power system disturbances.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff.
• Stay abreast of industry advancements, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies in power systems engineering.
