Job summary

Placements24 seeks a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead HV/MV power distribution design for industrial and commercial projects in Midrand, Gauteng. You will guide detailed schematics, studies, and control system logic while ensuring safety and reliability.

The role requires 7+ years in electrical design, proficiency with ETAP/PSS/E/DIgSILENT, and adherence to SANS/IEC/NEC standards. You will mentor junior engineers and coordinate with other disciplines on site and in design reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in electrical design engineering focusing on power systems.
• Experience with power system analysis software (ETAP, PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory).
• In-depth knowledge of electrical codes and standards (SANS, IEC, NEC).
• Experience in designing and specifying electrical equipment for industrial applications.
• Proficiency in CAD software for electrical drawings (AutoCAD Electrical).
• PE (Pr. Eng.) registration with ECSA is desirable.
• Experience with renewable energy integration or distributed generation is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design for medium and high-voltage power distribution systems.
• Develop detailed electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and control system logic.
• Perform power system studies including load flow, fault current, and protection coordination analyses.
• Specify electrical equipment such as switchgear, transformers, motors, and protection relays.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Conduct site visits for design verification, commissioning support, and troubleshooting.
• Ensure designs comply with national and international electrical codes and safety regulations.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to the design team.
• Prepare technical reports, proposals, and documentation for client presentations.
• Stay updated on new technologies and best practices in electrical engineering.
